Remembering a local Firefighter

FWB firefighters are among the many friends and family members mourning Padgett's death the last past week. Army Sgt. Tim "Timmy" Padgett, was killed Tuesday by enemy fire during a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan.

Tim was was a Green Beret in the Army Special Forces assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, N.C.
He was also a firefighter paramedic with the North Walton Fire Rescue and the South Walton Fire District before he joined the Army.

Timmy joined the Army about four years ago and was deployed to Afghanistan as a medic two months ago. It was his first combat mission. He will be missed, keep his family in your prayers. NWF Daily News has posted an article about Timmy and how to help out his Family here.

A busy two days for FWBFD & OCW crews

During the early morning hours E-7 B-Shift received a call for heavy fire in a commercial dwelling called in by S.O. E-7 arrived on scene within 4 minutes to find heavy smoke pushing from the eaves of a metal constructed cabinet shop. E-7 pulled a handline and backed out when it was confirmed hazardous materials were involved. Eventually the fire went to 4 alarms for manpower. Later that morning E-7 C-Shift received an alarm for a house fire in the Kenwood subdivision. Capt. of Inspections, Jim Poirrier actually phoned the call in after one of the students he was showing our safety smoke house to(@ Kenwood Elementary), witnessed heavy smoke issuing from the area a block away. Capt. Poirrier ran to the scene and reported heavy fire in the rear of the home. He then found the occupant of the home in the back yard and assisted him to the front yard. The 79 year old man was grilling in the back yard when there was an apparent malfunction, it caught the side of the home on fire, extended into Florida room and attic. The  Daily News has the video and the story here

"Sticker club"

Please remove all IAFF markings from your vehicle when selling, trading-in, etc. The IAFF logo is universally known and respected and identifies both them and their family members as part of an elite profession and connected to Organized Labor.

IAFF decals and emblems should not be given or sold to any individuals or non-family members who are not IAFF members. What you perceive to be a friendly gesture may be viewed by a police officer as illegal. Police in some states have interpreted the displaying of an IAFF or fire department logo by individuals who are not firefighters or the immediate family member of a firefighter as impersonating a firefighter, which is illegal in most states.

DO THE RIGHT THING.  REMOVE IAFF DECALS WHEN DISPOSING OF A MOTOR VEHICLE IN ANY WAY.
